Another cool sunny day with light (12knot) westerly winds. Departed on the ebb tide at 08:20, hoisted main and jib but ended up motor sailing again and wondering how much fuel we were going to consume if this very mild weather kept up.
I spotted an opportunity and we diverted to the measured mile near the Brisbane leads at slack tide to collect calibration data for the new paddle wheel log. It was way out against the GPS with estimated tidal flow correction. We did a pass in each direction at constant speed with Mick on the time and Deborah watching the start and stop transits. It measured only 0.856NM.
Lunch was Lucy's meatloaf with green salad and avocado; very nice.
Anchorage options were the northern end of Moreton Island, possible somewhat exposed if the anticipated SE breeze did not arrive, or the southern end of Pumicestone Passage (Bungaroo, Bribie Island) which was well sheltered but further from Mooloolaba. We thought it would be a pretty ordinary place as we had driven there in the past.
However, once we had picked our way through the permanent moorings to a shallow anchorage, the sunset was splendid and no sooner had we stepped onto the beach for a stroll then the pelicans settled in and the dolphins did a swim past.
The atmosphere was tranquil and picture perfect. Most unexpected and it made our day one to remember even before the splendid BBQ of rib fillet, portobello mushrooms, onions, zucchini with basil, and potato bake.
A bottle of good red rounded off the picture.
We noted that the 'esky' with solid blocks along the bottom and crushed ice fill, was holding up well after two days. With a bit more space in the fridge, the frozen meals were moved inside.
We slept well.
